Should American Idol Revamp Their Voting System? This is a featured page

Yes they should! I voted for Adam as much as I could but the line was ALWAYS busy. It should be 10 votes allowed per phone!!! Other's do it this way. It's time Idol get with the program. The wrong man won!

Should AI limit the votes per phone line, to allow for all the fans to be able to vote?
Wouldn't this enable a better count? Be more fair? What do you think?

Great question and I've already got myself in a twist on this on other posts. It's not just unclogging the 'phone lines that's needed. The current system isn't restricted to how the winner of AI gets declared. Some contestants were also sent home based on the voting system despite the one Judges' save. Perhaps they might have gone sooner, stayed longer, or even have made the finals if the vote-per-line limitation had been in place. There are some interesting posts about frustrated would-be voters (and not only Adam fans). The technology is available to limit votes per line and other shows have done this. It would not only allow for a more level playing field, but would give a much better handle on number of voters vs. numbers of votes cast. The same technology exists to allow for and limit numbers of votes cast from one IP address to the AI website. The voting system now favors text messages and especially those with unlimited text messaging plans. This likely has a demographic bias towards younger and/or wealthier voters. But they download music and buy CDs too and have the same eligibility to vote. I'm not going to echo the posts slamming Kris' alleged teeny-bopper fans. It's the system, not the fans. It's possible that Adam had more voters but fewer votes cast. It's also possible that Kris had more voters. We simply don't know. Lots of speculation about the reasons but no tangible evidence. I'd much rather know that the system was equitable to contestants and I'm sure that most elected Idols would also prefer to feel a rightful heir than left to wonder if he/she was simply lucky. Does any of this matter, you might ask, since now Adam - and others - are on track for stardom? I know that Adam will get the recognition that he deserves and I'm really, really thankful to AI for that. But I won't watch AI again unless they revamp the voting system.

Yes they should. It is so hard to get thru the phone lines and I also think that the songs should be available to everyone that watches...not just AT&T and ITunes. I use Sprint and I have a dope playlist and it isn't complete without Adam, Alison and Alexis.

Posted this B4 seeing your ? --

Before you write this off as being some B.S. post from just some teeny bopper, disgruntled fan or whatever, please take into consideration these basic facts: #1) I have nothing to gain and a lot to lose by posting my comments to the web in this day and age, just with SPAM alone -- #2) I am NOT a younster by any means, although watching Adam can certainly make one feel that way ... no, I am actually 52 years old at present. Am doing this not only because I hope the "powers that be" will take note, but because the system definitely needs changed when it comes to the American Idol voting rules and regulation.

Here is the plain and simple truth -- For two hours I attempted to place votes via the various toll-free numbers provided for Adam on the final voting night but failed far more times than I succeeded in getting through. (By the way, when did Idol stop letting the singers post recordings in their own voice to thank you for voting?) No matter which number I called, the results were the same - either a busy signal or nothing whatsoever, as if the call did not go through. For the record, we don't have any issues with our phone; we don't live in the boondocks, Capital region of NY actually. With repetitive dialing the entire time, I was only able to place 12 votes for Adam the 2nd hour! (sadly did not keep track the 1st hour, didn't know I'd need to) I told my fiance right then and there, Adam would lose the next night.

Only because history has shown how those with real talent from A.I. succeed despite the games, tricks and public shenanigans am I not concerned for Adam's future. I see Adam breaking records set not only by Daughtry & Carrie Underwood, but J. Hudson as well. He's multi-faceted and will no doubt be around for a long time to come.

Perhaps one day A.I. will do right by everyone. But for now, congratulations Adam, you are the real winner!

Now, as a more direct response -- Yes, they need to revamp their voting procedure, and do so before next season. They've already lost a lot of viewers as compared with previous season[s], possibly due to many of us becoming jaded from not only the results, but the petty fighting and insults. Who cares what Ryan states is the total of text & phone votes? That says nothing about the actual votes per contestant; something Idol has yet to divulge to their viewers for any season, and why? I've tried posting to their site several times this year concerning the phone line issues, yet my posts always seem to vanish into thin air, further creating a fear of there being some sort of manipulation being done upon some level. No, I'm not a paranoid individual as a rule either *g*, but when given the obvious public support for Adam this year, one has to ask for answers.

Not to say I am well-educated in how something like this might work, but surely some type of "single vote" verification system should be available to put into place in this day and age, right? Or perhaps a login system via the web based upon an individual's IP address, or even personal address could work (since creating a screen name would not give them a singular tracking ability). All I am aware of right now is how badly the current system seems to function. Even given the "swing" votes there might have been from either those rallying against a person's believed/supposed stereotype image or a judge[s] support could not have altered the end results this year by THAT much, could they? Hard to tell when Idol will not speak, or even allow it's viewers to speak.

Can we get their attention, or will it take a lack of voting to turn the trick?

I'm ready to do what it takes.

I think they should...becuase many rumors were spread that all the adam lambert fans couldnt get through. I dont know if thats true...but if it is, thenyes we should do a recount!! But in the whole skeem of life Adam is better for not winning, becuase he would be under AL contract and have to do what they tell him to...but he can do whatever he wants now!!! So go ADAM!!!

I absolutely believe they should revamp their voting system! I did get through 1200 times (but would love to only have to vote once), however, there were many who couldn't. There are way too many individuals abusing the system (tweens, VFTW, campaigns against a contestant including people who don't even watch the show - thank you very much Gokey/his pastor). There should be one vote allowed per contestant remaining in the competition, much like Dancing With The Stars! They need to put the players on an even playing field so the best talent does not lose again! Yes, Adam will be amazing in the future and he will have creative freedom! The only thing he won't have is the American Idol 2009 title, which still very much bothers me, since week after week he put himself out there 200% and gave all he had for all of us! He sang circles around the other contestants week after week! So on principle, it's a hard pill to swallow! When I talked to him, he was in great spirits and is truly excited for what is to come! But still... Idol HAS to do something to make this a more viable system! One of my friends even suggested going by iTunes sales, which at first seemed like a good idea. However, after seeing how Kris' No Boundaries is currently at number one, even that could be rigged with Fox buying up all the copies to insure he sits at the top! So yeah, one vote per computer or landline and that's it! Congratulations Adam.... you are MY Idol 2009 no matter what the results were!

I think they should revamp it also but American Idol is into the numbers. And the problem I see is even if you revamp it, someone out there will figure out how to cheat the system. Dancing with the stars only allows you to vote so many times and they drop it each week. I think at the end you get 5 votes, but you can vote from other computers, other phones and you can change your ip address. So I'm not sure what should be done. I'd like to know if what CNN said is true. On Itunes, is Kris out selling Adam on the No Boundaries song?

I definately think they should revamp the voting system. I would rather know how many people actually voted than the "amazing" number of votes that got through by lucky phone calls. I too voted all 4 hours, but only about 1 in 15 got through.

And I am still bummed that Adam didn't get the title after he walked out week after week and blew everybody else off the stage. Kris knows this is true also. Kris has good talent and will do well, but Adam is one in a billion. I know he will do great things anyway and I can't wait to hear what it is!!!

YES ! After the voting fiasco, i swore never to watch AI EVER! I couldn't believe the injustice of it all. Adam gave the very best performance week after week among all the contenders. Well, i guess it doesn't matter anymore what the voting system is or will be , AI just looks & feels dead without Adam. Sorry to say , but all feeling of excitement and happiness took a 360 degrees turn. AI is DEAD.

Anonymous American Idol Voting 0 Jan 20 2010, 1:46 PM EST by Anonymous

I will NEVER vote again on the American Idol Show. Doesn't mean I won't watch it....just wont waste my time voting. It had to be fixed. Half the time I hit Adam's redial phone number it said: "Thank you for voting for Contestant #/Kris". It was fixed, I don't care what anyone says.... It happened too many times while my family and I redialed to vote for Adam...NOT KRIS.

Anonymous Kris outselling Adam in No Boundaries? 3 Aug 12 2009, 2:06 PM EDT by jaberone

Kris may be outselling Adam in the song, but I wonder if that is so because of the negative attention it received after the young men sang the song. The judges treated Kara terribly and many fans did not purchase Adam's rendition of the song, but, Kris's fans probably thought the song put him on top of the competition.
