Can we stop with the gay stuff already
Jun 13 2009, 7:18 PM EDT | Post edited: Jun 13 2009, 7:18 PM EDT
So Adam is gay, so what? It's all over the news...the world is in a mess, and that's what the journalists are talking about. Let's put this to rest once and for all and concentrate on his next album, or what ever he does. Let's support him through his music. He is going to be GREAT!!!! I can not wait for his first album or his first concert. 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

From: Musicalgal: Right on. Adam said he is what he is but he does not want all this to be about any gay or not gay issues. He wants to be a recording artist. Let's let Adam be a recording artist and let's not worry about his personal side. This would be honoring Adam's wishes as he says when he is interviewed. Let's look forward to his artistry as a World Wide Start. Thank you - please put the gay info to rest. Let's let Adam be the recording artist he is desiring to become and look forward to and buy lots of his CDs and Music Videos. Amen. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Ok -- I thought we all agreed NOT to talk about his sexuality -- eliminate the words gay, bi, or straight from this thread discussion
and we're all understood . . ..

We're DONE -- I think WendyAllen makes the great point of talking about his talent & ambitions, and the prospect
of his new CD coming out in the fall . . .. Right? We are here to talk about Adam's music, and art, and our support of those endeavors in a grateful and loving way. Can we please?

Unfortunately Journalist put too much focus on personal facts about people that really shouldn't be any of our business. Just because we admire someone, it doesn't entitle us to have to know everything about that person. It especially doesn't give us the right to criticize that person, without that person having a fair shot at us. (ergo...people who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones). People just need to focus on themselves and whats important, not on who someone they don't even really know is fooling around with. All I need to know about Adam is that he can sing like nobody I've heard in a long long time. You can feel the heart and soul in his voice and I definatley want to hear and see more from this very talented individual. Thanks for a great show Adam! Do you find this valuable?

Hello. I posted this elsewhere (on another site) but I'm going to post it here in response to your comment - which I think comes from an absolutely good, Adam-centered place. But here's what I think:

I think it is extremely important (and also incredibly courageous) for Adam to speak out about his sexuality. I do not think it should in any way detract from his amazing musicianship/performance ability but it is a big part of who he is. In a country where one out of three gay teenagers attempts suicide, where an 11-year-old boy can be shot to death by a classmate for being gay, where Proposition 8 passes, where Matthew Shepard is tied to a metal fence and left to die - it is wonderful for someone like Adam to step forward and say "I'm gay, I'm comfortable with it, I've been out my whole adult life, I like who I am." As a gay person and as a psychiatrist, I can not tell you how much of a step foward this is for all gay, bisexual, and transgendered people. I certainly do not want Adam to be a banner carrier by any means - the focus for Adam should always be the music or anything else that makes him happy - because it is through his being happy that he will make us happy, and I'm nothing if not self-centered. I pray every day for Adam's safety because there are more than a few people out there who might feel very threatened by him.

Addendum for this site: I love Adam for what he brings to music - his voice, his physical presence on stage, his amazing connection with the audience, his energy, - I would love him if he was straight. But I love him even more for having the courage to answer the questions head on, unblinking, with style and grace. GO ADAM, WE LOVE YOU!!!

This is a beautiful reply. It's a shame that anyone has to be addressed by the words "the gay singer", "the black, asian, etc man", "the adopted child of". Everyone deserves to be the person they are and recognized as such.

Con't ...I too can't wait to see what Adam's album will be like. His voice is just amazing!! I adore him for his talent, his personality which is cute and funny, and most of all his bravery for living his true self and not being ashamed about it. By the way, cudos to his parents for being so intuitive and open about their son. The bit in Rolling Stone about how they dealt with his "---ness" was just great. They knew before he did. I only wish all parents could be like that. There would be less hate and conflict in our world.
